Memories of fascinating conversations with Mrs. Weiler about her husband, artist and painter Max Weiler and his artistic work
Around the year 2000, we had the privilege of meeting Yvonne Weiler, Max Weiler's widow, in person. What began as a first encounter developed into a series of intense and fascinating conversations, whether over shared lunches or afternoon coffee, during which she immersed us deeply in the world of Max Weiler.
Their stories gave us new perspectives on Max Weiler's art—his inspiration, his creative process, and his unmistakable connection to nature.
A special experience shared with Yvonne Weiler was a visit to the office of then-Federal Chancellor Dr. Wolfgang Schüssel. There, a large-format 2.30 m x 3.50 m work by Max Weiler hung on loan—a monumental work that filled the room with an almost spiritual atmosphere.
Seeing this painting in a political context made us even more aware of the universal appeal of Max Weiler's art.
But perhaps the most impressive experience was the visit to Max Weiler's attic studio. This place, where countless major works were created, seemed like a living archive of his creativity.
The walls breathed creativity, color pigments seemed to still hang in the air – as if Max Weiler had just gotten up to continue painting.
Together with Yvonne Weiler we also visited the Vienna Belvedere, where some of Max Weiler's most important large-format works were exhibited.
Amid these powerful images, we were once again reminded of how unique Max Weiler's perspective on the world was. The paint wasn't just applied—it lived, pulsated, and told stories.
These encounters left a lasting impression. They gave us not only a deeper understanding of Max Weiler's art, but also of the passion with which Mrs. Weiler kept his work alive.
Until her death in 2016, she was dedicated to preserving and passing on Max Weiler's artistic legacy.
Today, Max Weiler's works are present in important museums and art collections and touch generations of art lovers with deep respect.
