Gmundner Keramik gedeckter Tisch

Collection: Gmunden Ceramics

Gmunden ceramics is a fascinating example of traditional craftsmanship and cultural heritage. Since it was first mentioned in documents in 1492, the manufactory in Gmunden, in the middle of the picturesque Salzkammergut, has developed into one of the most important ceramics producers in Central Europe.

Craftsmanship and tradition:
The ceramics from Gmunden are truly unique pieces that impress with their handcrafted production and painting. Each product is individually designed, which makes them unique. Particularly noteworthy is the characteristic "green-flamed" design, which impresses with green bands on a white background and is known worldwide.

UNESCO World Heritage:
A significant milestone in the history of Gmunden ceramics is the designation of "flaming ceramics" as an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO in May 2021. This technique, in which patterns are applied to the ceramics using special flame and firing techniques, has a long tradition in the region. The typical patterns such as loops, loops, stripes, waves or arches have developed over centuries and shape the image of Gmunden ceramic art.

Gmundner ceramics represents a long tradition, masterful craftsmanship and a deep-rooted cultural significance. Their unique designs and UNESCO award underline the importance of this handicraft, which is valued both in the region and worldwide.
