More about "IKAT"
Our Ikats are as good as new, but are made using traditional handcraft. Ikat is derived from the Indonesian word "ikat" (bundle) or "mengikat" (tie) and describes a complicated and laborious weaving technique. Before weaving, the natural yarn is tied and dyed in places according to the desired pattern. When dyeing, the tied areas remain undyed. Repeating the work steps several times often creates a complex pattern. The dyed yarn is then stretched onto the loom and a decorative and multifaceted fabric is created. Ikat fabrics were very popular as clothing fabrics in Europe in the 18th century and are still used in Japan today for high-quality kimonos. The Ikat weaving technique is one of the oldest in the world.
