Sculpture "Athlete" by Carl Auböck

"Athlete" Sculpture

The "Sportswoman" sculpture from the tradition-steeped Werkstätte Carl Auböck is a remarkable combination of modern design language and artisanal precision. The figure is crafted from solid brass and finished by hand by experienced artisans in Vienna in an elaborate process.

The design dates back to the early 1950s and is an example of how Carl Auböck translates line, movement, and balance into a sculptural statement. The figure displays a sporty female silhouette in a tense posture – elegant, reduced, timeless. The clear form recalls the spirit of modernism, which was decisively shaped in Vienna and Weimar by the Bauhaus movement.

The Werkstätte Carl Auböck is now managed in its fourth generation and is considered one of the most significant addresses for Austrian design and craftsmanship. Internationally, the works of the Auböck family are exhibited in museums, galleries, and design collections. Collectors particularly appreciate the high metal content, the iconic forms, and the artistic substance of the objects.
